The Team of Joy Gospel Singers began singing on Sunday, February 13, 1987 at the Bull Swamp Baptist Church in Orangeburg, SC at the Andrew Chapel Baptist Educational and Missionary Sunday School Union. The original members were Travis Glaster, Rebecca Huggins, Anthony Myers, and Brenda Myers. Their first song was “Lord Lift Us Up Where We Belong.”

Brother Daniel Myers, Sister Mary Myers, and Sister Emma Mays advised the group for many years. After Brother Myers passing, Sister Mary Myers took over as head advisor of the group and is presently serving in this capacity. The group has been through many restructuring changes over the years, but through it all God has never left them. The group thanks all of their past members for the services that they have rendered.

The current members of the group, Ms. Mary “Mama” Myers, Mrs. Melissa Austin, Ms. Kimberly Brown, Ms. Nikki McDaniel, Ms. Crystal Myers, and Ms. Michelle Tyler, have been together for about 5 years. All of the current group members are descendants of fathers in the quartet field. The fathers of Melissa, Crystal, and Michelle were even a part of the same group named The American Jubilee Singers.

Sis. Mary Myers and the Team of Joy completed recording of its first CD entitled, “Me and Jesus” in October 2006. They have also been signed to the label of All-in-One Music Ministries based in Columbia, South Carolina.

Sis. Mary Myers and the Team of Joy have shared the stage with various national groups such as Lee Williams & the Spiritual QC’s, Slim & the Supreme Angels, The Canton Spirituals, Doc McKenzie & the Gospel Hilites, Tommy Ellison & the Singing Stars, the McDonald Sisters, the Williams Brothers, Willie Neal Johnson & the Gospel Keynotes, the Sensational Nightingales, the Williams Sisters, the Truthettes, Keith “Wonderboy” Johnson & the Spiritual Voices, and Darrell McFadden & the Fantastic Disciples.

The group has had several radio programs over the years. Currently, they have a radio program on South Carolina State University’s WSSB 90.3 FM on Sunday mornings. They also maintain a radio show on WPJK 1580 AM.

The group strives to make a joyful noise unto the Lord by ministering through songs. The group continues to reach higher heights in their ministry. With God on their side, they plan to be on tour in 2007.
